The Black Beacon 50 is the perfect mountain ultra — big climbs, wild landscapes and an unforgettable day in the Welsh mountains.
Starting in Pontneddfechan, runners head north through Waterfall Country, passing behind the Sgwd yr Eira (Snow Falls) waterfall before climbing high onto the open ridgelines of the Fan Llia and the Bannau Brycheiniog. The route links mountain summits, remote valleys and sweeping descents in a journey that is both demanding and unforgettable.
As the miles unfold, the landscape constantly changes. Fast runnable trails give way to steep climbs and exposed mountain terrain before opening onto vast views across the Black Mountains. November conditions add another layer to the experience, with crisp autumn air, dramatic skies and the possibility of true mountain weather.
The Black Beacon 50 is tough, but highly rewarding. Fully marked trails, frequent checkpoints and the atmosphere created by runners across all four race distances make this an ideal challenge for experienced trail and ultra runners looking for a serious mountain adventure without stepping into 100-mile territory.
This is mountain running at its very best.
